"rebirth" MEMORY OF EXILE OF THE GENOCIDE OF THE PATRIOTIC UNION


Synopsis: In 1984 the Colombian government and the FARC agreed to a cease-fire to start peace talks. A year later came a political movement in which the guerrillas would participate rifle changing the discourse, the Patriotic Union. Veterans joined the project, the main forces of the left and even liberals, conservatives and social leaders seeking a peaceful way to carry out

the profound changes that Colombia needed. The excellent results obtained in the 1986 elections sparked the beginning of political genocide UP: in less than a decade were killed about 4,000 supporters and activists, most by paramilitaries, soldiers and policemen fully identified, although not has been almost no convictions. Who gave the order to kill are still hidden beneath the dark cloak of impunity. Both sides acted together for fear that the UP to become a real option for power in Colombia.

During all these years of persecution, hundreds of militants of the UP left Colombia to escape the bullets. Reborn reconstructs the tragic story of this party through the testimony of and exiled in Spain. Their lives are an example of struggle for the defense of human rights in its broadest sense and an alternative to the conflict that is bleeding the country for decades. They were courageous men and women who gave everything for his ideals and the way lost their partners, children, parents, friends, acquaintances ... Today, in pain for so many absences, are proud of what they were and what are even unable to return to Colombia.
